In a groundbreaking move, the BBC has released a compelling podcast that encapsulates the spirit and challenges of our unique congregation: “Faith and Acceptance: The Story of Kenya’s First Queer-Affirming Church.“ This powerful narrative is not just about a church; it’s about a movement, a struggle for acceptance, and the unyielding courage of our community.
In 2013, a group of LGBT Christians, yearning for a space to express their faith without fear or prejudice, began gathering for Sunday worship. This small assembly grew into what is now celebrated as Kenya’s first openly queer-affirming church. Our church has become a beacon of hope, a sanctuary for those who have been marginalized and ostracized by mainstream religious institutions.
Our story is one of triumph in the face of adversity. Yet, as we navigate through a landscape marred by homophobia and threats of legal actions against the LGBT community, our sanctuary’s existence is under threat. The podcast poignantly captures this tension, presenting the emotional and spiritual struggles of our members.
This BBC podcast serves as a vital platform to share our story with the world. It sheds light on the intricate and often painful experiences of being a queer Christian in a society where such an identity is frequently condemned. The narrative weaves through personal tales of faith, identity, and the relentless pursuit of a place where love and acceptance are unconditional.
We invite you, our beloved community and allies around the world, to listen to this podcast. Share it with friends, family, and anyone who believes in the power of love and acceptance. It’s not just our story; it’s a call to action for tolerance, understanding, and the celebration of diversity in all its forms.
As we continue to face challenges and uncertainties, your solidarity means more than ever. Whether it’s through sharing our story, offering words of encouragement, or contributing financially, every action you take makes a significant difference in sustaining our sanctuary and advancing our cause. We warmly invite you to join us on this journey of love and acceptance. To make a donation or to reach out with your thoughts and ideas, please visit our Giving and Contact Us pages. Together, we can continue to build a world where everyone is free to love and worship in harmony.
